Limassol Travel West To History & Antiquity
Leave Limassol travel west and you will find the Akrotiri Peninsula with the great open space of the salt lake, lying right next to the mediterranean.
2 of the islands 3 military bases are found in the area RAF Akrotiri & Episkopi Garrison and if you visit around January and April you might be lucky enough to see the Red Arrows RAF Display Team practicing their aerobatics before their International summer season commences in the spring.
They visit because the weather offers perfect conditions for training, clear and sunny days and no chance of being fog bound unlike the UK.
The final training display becomes their first show of the season and is quite a spectacle over Akrotiri Bay.
How about a trip to the old neighbourhood home of Richard The Lionheart and the Crusaders in the village of Kolossi and the place we built our home and lived in the community for a number of years.
If history is your thing you will most definately want to include some limassol travel into your itinerary. For example you really must see Kourion for the amazingly preserved amphitheatre and mosaics... And not only that, the views out over the mediterranean and a trip to curium beach down below for some fantastic local food will really make your day out on a Limassol travel trip memorable.
If you are interested in wine and history you are on the doorstep of Erimi Village Home to the Erimi Wine Museum and one of our favourite Tavernas owned and run by Michael, one of the islands busiest bazouki players. As you are nearby pop into: Episkopi Village and see if the Village Museum is open. You can go out of the village, and out onto the old road to Paphos and drive past Episkopi Garrison and down through happy valley, the military sports ground and polo pitch. This journey will take you along the slow route to Paphos, but enjoy it as it is much more scenic than taking the highway. You will be so glad you did! This area is one of my favourite journeys for Limassol travel.
Further on you will encounter the old turkish village of Avdimou and an old family restaurant that serves pork chops as large as your plate. You think I am kidding.!
Finally, head on up to Anogyra Village and see one of only 8 Heritage Villages in Cyprus. Old stone houses, the carob museum of cyprus, the largest number of carob trees on the island and a warm welcome from the inhabitants.
If You Have Got Inclination To Go To The CoastIt is only a short drive, back down the hill and over the motorway to get to Pissouri You can either head down the beach road to the sea or on up into the main village and end your expedition to the west of Limassol. Hope you enjoyed your travels More Limassol Travel
Now you have covered the western end of the district, so I have broken the area down further into regions and will be writing about each of them in detail. You will not be short of things to do if you visit from another area, take your holiday here or are just visiting for one day from a cruise ship...
